rubyellen + cakies

Rubyellen has always enjoyed being creative since she was a little girl. One of her fondest memories was creating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle dolls out of brown paper bags for her little brother.

For years, she has dabbled in different art mediums from drawing to painting and now sewing. Though she had a love for art, her love for children was stronger and Rubyellen majored in Child and Adolescent Development and eventually became a teacher.

When her eldest daughter True was born, her career as a teacher was cut short. Since she decided to go into "early retirement," she had to learn to budget. While trying to be wise, but still funky and stylish, she started experimenting with felt and fabrics to come up with accessories and clothing for her girls. Thus, she was able to merge her love for art and children together.

Rubyellen continues to dream up ideas for her little girls and for wee ones all over. She continues to grow, learn, and get inspired from her daughters, Brave and True, her husband, Ben, as well as many artists and the beautiful world around her.

While her girls were still in her womb, Rubyellen and Ben could never agree on a name, so the babies were called "babycakies" until their names were fashioned. Hence, it was the perfect name to call her blog and shop because Cakies is for the "oh so sweet and little."
